Although not every duty/responsibility can be transformed into an achievement, it can be helpful to ask yourself the following questions:

  • How can I elaborate on how well I performed this duty/responsibility by adding action verbs, adverbs, adjectives, or statistics?
  • In what ways did I do this more efficiently, quicker, or better in other ways than anyone else? How did my work compare to others in the organisation?
  • If I was known as the ‘go-to’ person for this task, why?
  • How did I improve on the way this was normally done? Did I streamline the operation?
  • What were the positive results of my efforts?
  • What was the positive feedback I received (from anyone) about how I performed this duty? This can include praise, awards, rewards, promotion, additional or enhanced responsibilities.
  • If I increased revenue, earnings, customer service scores, customer satisfaction, or similar, by how much and why was this important to the organisation?
  • If I reduced spending, costs, time spent, or similar, while fulfilling this responsibility, by how much and why was this important to the organisation?
  • If I improved, maintained, or nurtured relationships with others involved in this task, in what ways?
  • If the responsibility was challenging, why was it challenging, and how did you tackle obstacles and solve problems?
  • If I was part of a team performing the task, in what ways did I contribute to the team’s efforts to achieve the results, goal, or target?
